Software Freedom Law Center, India (SFLC.in) is a leading non-profit legal services organisation working to protect digital rights and promote online freedom. For over 15 years, it has championed issues around free speech, privacy, security, and equitable access to knowledge, supporting citizens through research, legal advocacy, knowledge exchange, and policy action.
Project Goals
The objective was to create a powerful digital film that captured SFLC.in’s journey, impact, and commitment to digital freedom, encompassing free speech, privacy, and online rights. The film needed to convey the essence of their work across advocacy, technology, law, and policy, in a way that was both resonant and visually compelling.

Civic Spectrum conceptualised, scripted, and produced a film that brought SFLC.in’s story to life. Our deliverables included:
- Concept and script development rooted in SFLC.in’s mission and milestones.
- Motion design and visual storytelling to simplify complex ideas around digital rights.
- Audio design to enhance the visual narrative for greater impact.
- Final 2:55-minute video optimised for web, digital and social media release.
Our Approach
We began by studying SFLC.in’s history, initiatives, and public impact, collaborating closely with their team on the script, building context around current digital challenges, and defining a creative direction that highlighted the human relationship with technology. Through a tight script, bold typography, dynamic animation, and an evocative background score, we sought to convey both urgency and optimism. The film’s pacing and tone were carefully balanced to celebrate achievements while inspiring continued support for a freer, fairer digital future.
Result
The final film served as a visual narrative of SFLC.in’s mission and legacy, launched alongside the announcement of their EFF Award 2025 recognition. It amplified their visibility, giving stakeholders a clear glimpse into their purpose-driven work and reinforcing SFLC.in’s role as a leading voice in India’s digital rights movement. Concise yet powerful, the film stands as a testament to how visual storytelling can advance advocacy in the digital age.
