Overview

The Yazidi Legal Network works to advance justice for the Yazidi community and pursue accountability for crimes committed by ISIS. Its work spans investigation, documentation, legal intervention, training, capacity building and advocacy across domestic and international justice mechanisms.

We partnered with YLN to create its inaugural 2023 Annual Report, bringing together a year of complex legal, research, advocacy and survivor-support work into a clear, accessible and visually engaging publication.

Goals

1. Document the year’s work and impact across YLN’s programmes and areas of activity
2. Make complex legal and institutional work accessible to donors, partners and other stakeholders
3. Bring survivor experience and Yazidi perspectives to the forefront through authentic visual storytelling
4. Create a distinctive editorial identity that balances authority, clarity and humanity
5. Build a strong communications and engagement tool for fundraising, advocacy and stakeholder outreach

Approach

We worked closely with the YLN team through an iterative editorial and design process, first establishing a clear narrative structure and then developing a visual language around it.

Art and photography from Yazidi artists and photographers gave the report an authentic visual voice, while strong typography, hierarchy and considered use of imagery helped translate complex legal and organisational information into a publication that remained accessible and engaging.

The result was designed not simply as a record of activity, but as a communications tool capable of telling YLN’s story, demonstrating its impact and strengthening engagement with those who support its work.

Result

YLN’s inaugural Annual Report was completed and distributed in December 2023, providing partners, donors and stakeholders with a compelling account of the organisation’s work and impact.

The report established a strong editorial and visual foundation for YLN’s annual reporting, while creating a lasting resource for communication, advocacy and donor engagement.
