A visual blueprint for India’s hydrogen future.
Overview
Self Reliant India – Harnessing the Power of Hydrogen was the first Indo-Norwegian knowledge collaboration focused on green hydrogen, commissioned by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) and supported by Invest India, with Innovation Norway as Knowledge Partner and Norway as Country Partner.
Conceptualised and developed against the backdrop of the International Climate Summit 2021 in New Delhi, the knowledge book brought together scientific research, policy perspectives and industry insights to examine India’s potential to build a green hydrogen economy.
Goals
- Establish a comprehensive knowledge resource on India’s emerging green hydrogen ecosystem
- Make the case for hydrogen as a critical component of India’s clean-energy transition
- Map the policy, technology and industry landscape shaping hydrogen adoption in India
- Propose a roadmap for collaboration and adoption, bringing together government, industry, academia and research institutions
Deliverables
- Research and editorial framework
- Publication concept and structure
- Content development and editing
- Data and information visualisation
- Art direction and publication design
- Custom illustrations and infographics

Approach
We worked closely with our advisory partner SSARMA Consults and multiple teams across India, Norway and the Netherlands to translate a complex body of scientific, technical and policy material into an accessible knowledge publication.
The visual language brought together Nordic minimalism with Indian visual traditions, using a restrained Nordic-inspired palette, nature-led imagery and subtle Mandala references. The four cover artworks drew on India’s diverse landscapes and the natural resources at the heart of the hydrogen opportunity: sun and water.
Beyond aesthetics, the publication was structured as a journey, moving from India’s energy landscape and the potential of hydrogen through technology, markets, safety and regulation, before culminating in a forward-looking roadmap for adoption and collaboration.
Result
A comprehensive Indo-Norwegian knowledge resource on India’s green hydrogen potential, developed over six months with scholars, scientists and domain experts across two continents.
The book was launched at the International Climate Summit 2021 in New Delhi by senior Central Government ministers and the Ambassador of Norway to India, establishing it as a key knowledge contribution to the emerging India–Norway hydrogen dialogue.
